Civic Spark MLK Volunteer Day

Wonderful way to start the new week hosting Civic Spark fellows in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. (Rest in Power).

“CivicSpark is an award-winning and evidence-based AmeriCorps program that builds local government and community capacity to address emerging and entrenched community resilience challenges. Each year, CivicSpark recruits 100+ emerging leaders who are interested in gaining professional experience in the community resilience field and developing technical skills, all while creating a meaningful and lasting impact in their service community.”

Fellows spent the morning on the farm seeding 20 trays of flowers, weeding bermuda grass from the blackberry bed, chopping broccoli for preservation, and tending the native wildflower path.

Part of our mission is food sovereignty, growing food in our own community and distributing to low-income and food insecure families FOR FREE! As Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life's persistent and most urgent question is 'What are you doing for others?” Because only when we take care of each other, can we reach collective liberation.

TESTIMONIALS

The work being done at Three Sisters Gardens is inspiring. This is the true meaning of community and giving back. Even as a volunteer who isn't from the community, I felt welcomed and learned a lot about taking care of the land. Will definitely be back! - Kayla
